My "Rings of the Sea" necklace was a Finalist in the 2010 Firemountain Gems Beading Contest!

The Rings of the Sea necklace was made using chez firepolished crystals in green and blue. Each section of the necklace is woven together using seed beads and the necklace has a sterling silver hook and eye clasp.

Entries for the Beadstar Contest

I just completed my entries for the Beadstar Beading Contest and submitted them. The categories I entered were crystal, hearts, seed beads, glass beads, gemstones, and pearls. I sent the initial email entries and will hear from them some time in June. This is when I will find out whether or not I am a finalist. If I am a finalist, I will have to send in the actual piece and include written instructions on how to make it.

I had my first jewelry party!

I just had my first jewelry party!

My first jewelry party was really exciting. I displayed my jewelry at a friends house and my girlfriend set up her display of arbonne products. We had an open-house type setup and we both made some sales and handed out alot of business cards. The great thing is that we already have a request to do another combo party.

I have a picture below that shows how I set up my jewelry display:

I had my beautiful daughter, Amber, model a necklace and earrings set I made (A finalist design in the Fire Mountain Gems Beading Contest - Glass Bead Category).

We had a good time and everyone enjoyed the jewelry and the arbonne products. Hopefully, this is the beginning of something good.

New Designs for the Season!

Hello Everyone! It is time to show you some of my new jewelry designs for 2010. I have some very special pieces to show you.

The first design is called, "The Queens' Jewelry" and was made using jabonex fire polished crystals. This gorgeous necklace and earrings set, as well as the other following jewelry designs, was entered in the 2010 Fire Mountain Gems Beading Contest.

The Second Set includes a Necklace, Bracelet, and Earrings and is called, "An Aqua Wedding".

The third piece is a necklace and is called, "Blue and Green Seascape".

I have opened a new shop!

I have opened a new shop at 1000Markets!

I am so excited about my new shop at 1000Markets.com. I will focus on gemstone jewelry and anything else gemsone that I can come up with. Some of my designs are shown below:

This necklace and earrings set is called "Indian Gems". They were made using turquoise and amber gemstone beads, dark shell heishi beads, turquoise bear beads, silver beads, and sterling silver earwires and a sterling silver clasp with a turquoise cabachon.

This necklace and earrings set is called "Blue Coral Splendor" and was made using blue coral, silver spacer beads, and sterling silver earwires and a sterling silver clasp.

This necklace and earrings set was made with brown fossil coral, cultured freshwater pearls, gold spacer beads, 14k gold filled earwires and a 14k gold filled clasp.

Decorating with Bookmarks

Have You Ever Thought Of Decorating with Bookmarks?

I have bookmarks all over my house. Because I am an avid reader and a collector of bookmarks, as are my to children, I decided to try some decorating. Not only do I collect bookmarks and read books, I also collect antique books. My favorite things ti decorate are my antique books on display.

Other ways to decorate with bookmarks include, using them as curtain tiebacks. You can use more than one:

You can do just about everything with bookmarks. I have them all over my house. I have my entire handmade stock of bookmarks just hanging around in my work room.

I think, though, that my favorite thing to decorate would be my antique books that I have displayed:

Decorating with bookmarks can be really fun. I make my own bookmarks and enjoy creating designs that are original and beautiful enough to use as either an actual bookmark or for display.

Use your imagination. If you are a book...and bookmark...lover like I am, this is a great to show everyone who visits your home just how creative you can be with something that you absolutely love to do.

I hope that I have given some of you book lovers something to think about. I have also considered somehow decorating the stacks of books I have piled on my floor. If I come up with something, I will let you know.

My new website focuses on wedding and special occasion jewelry. Because I have such a passion for designing wedding and special occasion jewelry, I decided a website was just what I needed to get my handmade custom designs out there for others to enjoy.

In previous blog posts I have introduced you to many of my jewelry collections; The Sarah Collection, The Victoria Collection, and The Olivia Collection most recently. Other collections that I have introduced to you include The Imperial Lace Collection and The Berry Lace Collection. These are many of the collections that are available for sale on my website, however, I also offer my services for custom design consultations. My most recent consultation included jewelry for a wedding, including, The Brides Necklace and Earrings, The Maid of Honor Necklace and Earrings, and The Brides Maid Necklace and Earrings, which were all introduced in a previous blog as well.

Introducing My Latest Designs

The Olivia Collection...

The Olivia Collection, a necklace, bracelet, and earrings set, was created on the day my little pug, Olivia, was at the vets having a tumor removed. I was so worried about her that I decided to set down and create something in her honor and this is what I came up with.

I was very pleased with how this set turned out. It is very special to me. My pug is doing fine, however, we did find out that the tumor that removed was cancerous. The good news is we caught it in an early stage and she has a really good chance of beating it. We love her and know she will be find. Below is a photo so you can get an idea of what a wonderful girl she is and why I think she is so prescious.

Another thing special about this set is the reaction my father had when he saw it. He was really impress by it, which is an huge compliment. Infact, he liked it so much that he decided to purchase it, so, I had to make another set!

The Sarah Collection...

Because I have decided to focus on wedding jewelry, alot of my new work includes working with pearls. The Sarah Collection includes a necklace, bracelet, and earrings and was made from cultured freshwater pearls, sterling silver filigree beads, and sterling silver findings.

The Sarah Collection was created one afternoon after I had received a new shipment of pearls and filigree beads. When I had almost completed it, my daughter came into the room and said, "I want that!", so I had to make another set. She really loved the set and I hope you do.

The Victoria Collection...

The Victoria Collection was inspired by my desire to work with swarovski crystals and my love for right angle weave, an off loom beadweaving technique.

The Victoria Collection includes a necklace, bracelet, and earrings. I hope you like it as much as I do.

As you have probably figured out from what I have shown you here, I have found that my favorite materials to work with include swarovski crystals and cultured freshwater pearls. I have also found that most of the pieces I am creating right now usually look better with silver. The Olivia Collection does have gold filled findings, however, as I thought gold look better with the golden shadow swarovski crystals.

I will be listing these collections on my new website gajlsbeadsnsuch.com, which is currently under construction. My plan is to have it up and running some time within the next week...cross your fingers and toes everyone! I am anxious to finish it so I can promote the heck out of it....yeah!

I really hope you enjoy my new work. I am so excited to show it to you. My next project seems to be taking a little longer to complete as I am currently in the middle of so many things...i.e., sick puppy, new website, entering a beading contest, etc...of course, I can always take on more...right?

Taking on some new favorites!

Hello everyone! I am working with some new favorites!

I have been adding some new beading supplies to my pile. I am currently working alot with pearls and gemstones. One of my older creations is listed in my MadeitMyself Shop. It is called Celestial Fire.

I'm also excited at Picasa photo software. I have been playing with some of the images for my new website. See for yourself...

It is really fun to enhance existing photos with the different options such as shadowing, glow, and contrast. This software is awesome and it is free. Just download it from picasa.com and start playing.

I am also working with pearls and have finished a few projects that I will be photographing within the next few days. Once the photos are complete, I will post them right here. They will be a part of my new website gajlsbeadsnsuch.com. Unfortunately I keep running in to personal issues that keep me from finishing the site. It should be completed very soon.

A Craft Show in February

I am doing my first craft show on February 6, 2009

It is time for me to do my first craft show. I have never done one so I am flying blind. A friend of mines' little girls' school is having a craft fair and I will be selling some of my wares.

Because it is my first craft fair, I am not totally sure what I need to do. My first priority is to get the inventory I plan to take with me and prepare a price list. I will also tag the items with their prices and also select items to be listed for sale prices. It will be alot of work but I hope it will be worth it. It will be good to get some sales and hand out some business cards.

I have been very busy setting up a new and joining two new communities. I set up a shop at "Madeitmyself" and I joined the Weloveartfire and Indiepublic communities. The Berry Lace Collection

I would like to introduce my Berry Lace Collection.....

The Berry Lace Necklace is made with deluca lilac silver-linedseed beads, garnet chez fire polished crystals, and a garnetcolored glass bead for closure.

The necklace is approximately eighteen inches long and is made
using one of my original designs. The pattern is made with off loom beadweaving techniques, such as, brick stitch and picots.

The bracelet is approximately seven and a half inches long and has tye same type closure as the necklace.

The earrings are a little less than two inches long and are made using antique copper earwires.

The Berry Lace Collection may be worn to any special occasion or it may be worn as a wedding set. The beautiful colors and the style may be considered vintage, heirloom, or even classic. Each piece was made by hand and individually created with love.

My New Project Is Finally Finished!

My special Wedding Jewelry project is finally done and I am so happy with the results! My special wedding project was well worth the time and effort...and stress during the holiday season. The reaction of the wedding party when they saw the final designs was priceless.

The Bridal Necklace and Earrings Set was made with 3mm and 4mm swarovski crystals in clear arora borealis and golden shadow, #11 seed beads in ivory pearl, clear arora borealis, and opaque luster blush, and #15 seed beads in gold luster cranberry. The round filigree clasp and earwires are of gold filled metal. The necklace is approximately eighteen inches long and the earrings are about one and a half inches long.

The Brides Maid Necklace and Earrings Set was made with 3mm swarovski crystals in golden shadow and 4mm swarovski crystals in golden shadow and clear arora borealis. It was enhanced with #15 seed beads in gold luster cranberry and the round filigree clasp and earwires are of gold filled metal. The necklace is approximately fifteen inches long and the earrings are about one and a half inches long.

The Matron of Honor Necklace and Earrings Set was made with 3mm and 4mm golden shadow swarovski crystals, 4mm clear arora borealis swarovski crystals, #15 seed beads in gold luster cranberry. The necklace is approximately fifteen and a half inches long and the earrings are about two inches long. The round filigree clasp and ear wires are of gold filled metal.

The bridal jewelry that was created in this project was designed with the help of the Maid of Honor. The Brides dress was in the color of champaign and the Matron of Honor and Brides Maid dresses were made of burgundy fabric. After looking at my bead selection, we agreed on what beading materials would be used and in what colors. The next step was to come up with a design for each set. The brides necklace was a combination of three patterns, two from a magazine and one of my original creations. The Brides Maid necklace was made from a pattern in a magazine and the Maid of Honors necklace was one of my own design. Each of the three pairs of earrings were my own design.

I hope you enjoy looking at these as much as I have. I plan on making some more sets so I can have them in stock. I will probably vary the designs and use different colors. Come see what I make. I will you know when they are done.

Update on New Project

It's been a while since I first told you about my exciting new project...wedding jewelry. The current status of my project is:

The brides necklace is three quarters complete
The brides earrings design and colors are final
The brides maid and matron-of-honor necklace and earrings designs and colors are final

Unfortunately, I do not have photos of the brides' necklace yet. I want to finish it before I post a picture, but, just to let you know, the maid-of-honor has seen what is completed on the brides necklace and she just about flipped!

I cannot wait to show it to you. I should be able to post a photo of the brides necklace and earrings in the next few days.

A Special New Years Project!

I have a very special New Years project! I have been asked to design and make jewelry for a wedding. The bride will be wearing a necklace and earrings and her dress will be in the color of champaign. Both the matron of honor and the maid of honor will be wearing burgundy. These colors will be used in the final design with, hopefully, the right color balance and "pop"!

My final necklace design will incorporate aspects of an original bridal design of mine as well as parts of three other designs. The good news is that I have the final bridal necklace design finished, however, I am still finalizing bead colors. Though I am not positive about color placement and bead size, I am sure that I will be incorporating 3mm and 4mm swarovski crystals, various sizes of seed beads, and the findings will be of sterling silver.

In the end, I will have completed a project that includes a bridal necklace and earrings, and a necklace and earrings for both the matron and maid of honor. As I complete each piece of the project I will update my blog so you can see what I have done.

I am anxious to get started. Hopefully, I will be posting a picture of the bridal necklace sometime within the next week.

I am so excited about this project...it allows me to stay in my favorite creative mode...custom wedding jewelry designs!

I wanted to come up with a business name that was uncommon and that would really draw attention. It had to be something that no one else had heard of and that would be hard to forget. I hope that I have accomplished what I started out to do with the company name. Now, I guess, I need to let all of you know who I am and what I do.

How It All Started!

I work in a busy hospital and we have always been requried to wear namebadges. I was really tired of having to clip my namebadge to something I was wearing. It was really tacky and unattractive. Then, one day, I saw a lanyard namebadge necklace. I asked the person wearing it where she got it and I was told that she made it. This got me thinking, "I can do that to!".

I decided to purchase some supplies for my beaded lanyards so I could start making my own. I had them for probably a year before I actually sat down to make anything. Not only did I start making lanyards, I started making bookmarks and jewelry.

Initially, I used glass and acrylic beads for my projects, and then I bought my first beading book. I was especially intrigued by the information and photos I saw using seed beads. I decided to invest in some magazines and in a bead weaving book by Sandra Halpenny. OH, My Stars!...I was so excited to see the patterns in her book that I started working with seed beads and crystals right away. I started with necklaces and came up with my own version of Sandras necklace designs and made bracelets and earrings to match. I could not get enough of my new found favorite...off loom beadweaving with seed beads!

As I created and designed my own items, I began to get orders from friends and family. I started selling lanyards first, then I was asked to take on the challenge of creating a design which included a creation using specific colors and beads. I was first asked to create a necklace that was made up of dragonflies and in the colors of cobalt blue and green. The final result was awsome. My customer was extatic about it and just loved it. The next challenge I was given included a challenge I had was when a customer asked me to make a necklace in a celestial design using some carnelian moon and star stones she had picked out of a catalog. It took some creative thinking, but, once I came up with the design I was very excited. It did not take very long to make it once I came up what I was going to make. The necklace is listed on my website and it is called, "Celestial Fire Necklace". I ended up using carnelian, red agate, garnet rocailles, moon and star gold plated charms, and gold spacer beads. The final results was beautiful! I am currently working on a project which includes wedding jewelry. I will post photos once they are complete. I am so excited!
